1. What is Male Menopause (Late-Onset Hypogonadism, LOH)?

Male menopause (Late-Onset Hypogonadism, or LOH) is a condition in which declining testosterone levels with age lead to symptoms such as reduced sexual function and mental or neurological issues.

Although awareness of this condition is gradually increasing in Japan, many men who require treatment are still not receiving the care they need.

At our clinic, you can consult with a certified testosterone therapy specialist to discuss appropriate hormone treatment options and long-term care plans. Please feel free to reach out—we’re here to support you.

Physical symptoms

Common symptoms may include decreased muscle strength, persistent fatigue, reduced stamina, hot flashes, excessive sweating, headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, low libido, and erectile dysfunction.

Mental symptoms

Psychological symptoms may include loss of motivation or interest, irritability, increased anxiety, depression, insomnia, and difficulty with concentration and memory.

Male menopause, or Late-Onset Hypogonadism, differs from female menopause in that it has no defined onset period. The symptoms may continue indefinitely once hormonal decline begins, unless properly managed.

2. Diagnostic and Treatment Procedure

Medical consultation and counseling

Patients who see a doctor and are suspected of having symptoms of male menopause (LOH), or those who wish to undergo testing, can receive detailed examinations.

Additionally, consultations for androgenetic alopecia (AGA), erectile dysfunction (ED), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are also available.

Examination

We check testosterone levels through blood tests, along with assessments of liver and kidney function, as well as screening for lifestyle-related diseases.

We also take into account the symptoms you personally experience to make a comprehensive judgment on whether treatment is appropriate, so please rest assured.

Treatment

For male menopause (LOH), short-acting testosterone injections are commonly used. However, for busy patients, regular visits can be difficult, and prolonged treatment may cause fluctuations in blood hormone levels after administration, increasing the risk of side effects.

At our clinic, we offer long-acting testosterone injections (commonly known as Nebido), as well as oral medications (usually 1 to 2 tablets per day) and topical gels.

Regular check-ups / Consultations for AGA, ED, and Premature Ejaculation

In testosterone replacement therapy, testosterone levels are regularly monitored, and patients continue treatment while regularly consulting with their doctor to assess symptom changes.

We also provide consultations and treatments for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and erectile dysfunction (ED), including medication therapy for ED.
